The importance of having reliable sources of sustainable energy is highlighted by the fact that as of 2019 non-fossil fuel energy share was only 20% in the US. Given the amount of energy that the US needs it maybe a significant number. However as a percentage it shows the gap that still needs to be addressed.

There has been a shift in the policy of the US with their willingness to rejoin the Paris climate accord and a willingness to invest $2 trillion in decarbonising the power sector by 2035 and the plan to achieve net- zero carbon emissions by 2050. Being the largest consumer of energy it is to be expected that policy changes such as these by the US will definitely impact markets everywhere else.

This will also mean that the focus for the renewable energy industry will likely shift from solar and wind to other forms of green energy and battery technology. The US has also shown its commitment to electric vehicles with the intention of ensuring that 50% of all vehicles and trucks sold by 2030 to be electric vehicles.
